As a mum who has dealt with long-term bedwetting I really know what it’s like. I found that most of the waterproof fitted sheets on the market degenerated quicky and needed to be replaced within a year at best. Worse still, their lack of absorbency and huge surface area allowed the wee to ‘travel’. I frequently had to wash the pillow, pillowcase, duvet and duvet cover as well as the waterproof sheet itself.
Trying to stay calm and patient is not always easy in the middle of the night, especially when your child’s sheets are soaked through and you face two loads of washing in the morning and the constant embarrassment of an acrid wee smell in the house. Over 12 years of trial and error I found a few products I liked, but nothing that really stood out from the crowd. With up to six million adults and 1 in 12 British children wetting the bed on a regular basis there is a definite need for a product which provides a practical solution to changing the bed quickly during the night, whilst being comfortable and of the very best quality.
It was really good to hear about a new product on the market. Brolly Sheets are waterproof mattress protectors designed to go over your usual sheets and tuck in under the matress, so they are easy to whip off without having to change all the bedding. They come in five child-friendly colours, they are available in several sizes, and thankfully they are machine washable and can be tumbled dried.
I like the name ‘Brolly Sheets’, don’t you? It is so much easier to handle talking about bedwetting when there is a sympathetic vocabularly to use. We used to use the term ‘Nappy Pants’ with a degree of affection until my son got too old to bear the word ‘nappy’. I never knew what to call them after that – ‘Pull-ups’ never sounded quite right. Brolly Sheets has a good ring to it that works for all age groups.
Unlike the usual stiff, noisy waterproof protectors, Brolly Sheets have an upper layer made from 100% cotton, contain a super absorbent middle layer, and non PVC, breathable yet waterproof back making them soft, discrete and as comfortable to sleep on as regular sheets. Their super absorbency, holding up to 2 litres, makes them suitable for adults and those with disability.
Brolly Sheets Limited was established in July 2006, by Diane Hurford who was looking for a solution to make changing her daughters’ wet bed at night easier. Brolly Sheets was first launched in Australasia. They are available internationally online, and with a growing customer base, Brolly Sheets officially launched in the United Kingdom in August 2009. Their UK Office is in Berkshire.
Brolly Sheets aim to become brand leaders in the incontinence bedding product market as well as a source of advice and support. Currently 25% of Brolly Sheets sales come through referral, which may not be hugely impressive, but and I’d bet that figure would be a lot higher if the subject of bedwetting was not such a huge taboo!
Jane Yazici, a very lucky Brolly Sheet customer in Oxfordshire wrote, “My daughters are so excited about their pretty pink Brolly Sheets and we’ve not had a wet bed since they arrived, perhaps they’re just too pretty to wee on!”
Claire Hollis, in London, wrote, “Sleeping on a Brolly Sheet is as comfortable as a normal sheet, no uncomfortable perspiring or noise. I simply can’t believe how easy they are to change at night, no more turning on the lights and undoing the whole bed, everyone is back to sleep within minutes and there’s no waking up to a huge pile of washing. I’ll definitely be taking them away with us over the holidays”.
Brolly Sheets are available online at www.BrollySheets.co.uk from £29.95. For additional information please visit the Brolly Sheets website or call 0800 917 5204.
I wonder how well they will stand up to constant washing and re-use? I would love to read your feedback and reviews of Brolly Sheets as I’m dying to know whether they are as good as they sound! Comments welcome!

Wow what a great idea, I received one of the free Brolly sheets and it is fantastic! It is a king single size and fits a double bed as well as a single, it is easy to fit and remove, it stays in place with the tuck in flaps and it is easy to wash and dry! What more could I ask for.
Well done to who ever thought of this idea I will be reccommending them to anyone who is pregnant or looking to toilet train their little ones. The brolly sheet will also be useful if my child is poorly.
Thank you so much for my WONDERFUL Brolly sheet. x
