Bullying – The Vicious Cycle

The largest survey of its kind to date of 600 young people with eating disorders has revealed that almost half felt that bullying had contributed to their illness. Beat – the national campaigning charity supporting people affected by eating disorders carried out the survey and has discovered that out of those surveyed 91% had experienced bullying and 47% felt it contributed to their eating disorder. Nearly half were bullied over a period of 2-5 years and 11% 6 years or more.

Good school places come with a high price tag

Access to a good school is the single most important consideration when parents with school-age children decide where to live, but homes with access to high-quality schools come with a significant house price premium attached, a survey by Savills Research has shown. Homes in the vicinity of the top-performing 25% of secondary schools now cost 16% more than their county average, up from 13% in 2007. At the extreme, homes in areas with a combination of good state and independent school options can be worth two or three times their county average.

Is childhood in crisis?

On 16th October 2009, following its three-year enquiry and 31 interim reports, the Cambridge Primary Review published its final report on the condition and future of English primary education. The report finds Englandʼs primary schools under intense pressure but in good heart and in general doing a good job. Since 1997, investment in primary education has risen dramatically and many policies have had a positive impact. Highly valued by children and parents, primary schools provide stability and positive values in a world of change and uncertainty.
