We know the holidays can seem very long and very expensive, and probably already feel like they’ve been going on forever! But the Really Big Summer Adventure is a six week long initiative designed to inspire kids, parents and carers with loads of ideas, offers and competitions to get the family up and about – for free! If you want to take a look at some ideas you can Click here for Change4Life website and give the online Fun Generator a trial
In the middle of the month we’re going to be working with the University of Sussex’s Mass Observation Archive – an initiative which works to record everyday life in Britain and preserve the memories for future generations. On the 13th August, the mid-point of the summer holidays, we’re asking families to record a diary of what they did that day, and e mail it to us to be preserved permanently in the University’s archives. The idea is that we create an online time capsule so that children in the future can see what the summer looked like in 2011.
If you have time, we’d love it if for you to write a diary entry for us on what you and your family were doing that day – it could be anything from a BBQ to a water fight in the garden – whatever it is, we’d love to know – and you can include pictures if you’d like.
If this is something you’d be interested in, do let us know, the address to send entries to is summerdiary@dh.gsi.gov.uk .
