The stickers are for children to stick on school bags and clothing, to ensure they are seen by other road users. The Texaco brand is committed to helping to educate children about road dangers. This year it is also giving away a new range of lollipops, which come in five fruit flavours and also feature road safety messages.

Bullying – The Vicious Cycle

The largest survey of its kind to date of 600 young people with eating disorders has revealed that almost half felt that bullying had contributed to their illness. Beat – the national campaigning charity supporting people affected by eating disorders carried out the survey and has discovered that out of those surveyed 91% had experienced bullying and 47% felt it contributed to their eating disorder. Nearly half were bullied over a period of 2-5 years and 11% 6 years or more.

One in three children lose touch with a parent after divorce

A study commissioned by family lawyers at Mishcon de Reya to mark the 20th anniversary of the Children Act has revealed that one in three children in Britain permanently loses touch with a parent, usually the father, because of their parents failure to divorce amicably. The study also found that one in five parents said that their primary objective during separation was to make the experience ‘as unpleasant as possible’ for their former spouse. As a result, a fifth of children involved said that they ‘felt used’ by their parents with a third feeling isolated and lonely.

As a mother of four boys and stepmum to six children, I know how hard it is to choose worthwhile presents. For years I dreaded the usual question from both Grandmas, “What does he want for his birthday?” and “What can I get them for Christmas?” I would try in vain to encourage them to buy the children a surprise present. Then I would have to rack my brains to come up with something that Grandma would think ‘worthwhile’ but that would not make the kids turn up their noses in horror. It was tricky. Before long, the standard currency for gifts was cash, gift vouchers and cheques.

One in five top class primary school pupils have been cyberbullied

Primary school children are becoming victims of cyberbullying, and we need to help them protect themselves, according to new research released on 16th November by the Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA), unveiled for the start of Anti Bullying Week 2009, revealed that one in five (20.5%) of Year 6 primary school pupils surveyed (aged 10 or 11) had been cyberbullied in the past 12 months. The study also showed 22% of Year 6 pupils did not know how to protect themselves against cyberbullying, and 18% of the 10 and 11 year olds surveyed, have been cyberbullied whilst at home.
